Vietnam woman burns herself to death to protest China’s oil rig
An elderly woman burnt herself to death this early morning at the entrance gate of Ho Chi Minh City Reunification Palace to protest China’s encroachment of Vietnamese waters in the East Vietnam Sea.
一名中年婦女清晨在胡志明市的統一宮入口處自焚身亡，以抗議中國在東越南海對越南海域的侵犯。
The woman was identified as Le Thi Tuyet Mai， 67， residing on Bui Dinh Tuy Street in Ward 24， Binh Thanh District， Ho Chi Minh City， according to Le Truong Hai Hieu – deputy chairman of the People’s Committee of HCMC’s District 1.
Hieu added that the woman killed herself for feeling angry at the China’s illegitimate placement of its drilling rig in the Vietnamese waters.
他表示該婦女對於中國在越南海域上非法放置鑽油平臺感到憤怒而自殺。
Before killing herself， she placed six handwritten slogans with phrases to protest China.
點火前，她親手寫下6個標語、抗議中國。
At the scene， police collected an empty five-liter can， a lighter， and six handwritten slogans.
在案發現場，警方收集到一個容量5公升的空桶、一個打火機，以及6個手寫的標語。
Many passers-by on Nam Ky Khoi Nghia Street at the gate of the Reunification Palace witnessed the woman pouring petrol on her body and striking a light. But they said they couldn’t have time to react.
