　　環球電影公司的福爾摩斯系列有一些是基於柯南道爾爵士的故事而改編的，然而其中最棒的一些卻是電影編導的原創作品。撇開電影中關於時代背景的設置不談，毫無疑問的Basil以自己獨特的理解方式演繹並重塑瞭福爾摩斯在人類心目中的形象，並使得其後來的演員的演繹都不得不被人拿來和Basil的做比較，而且這種情況一直持續瞭四十年，直到Jeremy Brett出現為止。

Sherlock Holmes takes on a case that the press has dubbed the pajama suicides. Eminent men are going to bed in the safety of their own homes, with everything seemingly being normal, only to commit suicide in the night. Holmes fakes his own death in the hopes of giving him a freer hand in the investigation and is convinced that a woman, a female Moriarty as he describes her, is behind the deaths. The dead men were all eminent and very wealthy. He impersonates a wealthy retired Indian military officer in the hope of drawing out the woman and he soon meets Adrea Spedding but she quickly sees through his disguise and proves herself to be the challenge Holmes predicted she would be. She is a worthy adversary and soon traps him setting him up in a carnival shooting gallery that seems to assure his death.
Here is another strong entry (beautifully restored by the UCLA Film and Television Archive) from the peak of Basil Rathbone's prolific, seven-year run as a definitive Sherlock Holmes for the big screen. The Spider Woman (1944) employs details of Holmes's apparent death and resurrection between "The Final Problem" and its follow-up, "The Adventure of the Empty House." But the movie takes a different direction when a bizarre series of late-night "pajama suicides" finds Holmes probing the involvement of a femme fatale. Of the quartet of features in this set (all produced and directed by the energetic Roy William Neill) Spider Woman has the most vivacity and familiar textures from Doyle's canon.
　　With an involved, detailed mystery and an elegant adversary played by Gale Sondergaard, this is one of the most entertaining features in the Sherlock Holmes series of movies starring Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce. The story gets a little far-fetched, but it is quite interesting. It is loaded with plot devices pulled from several different Arthur Conan Doyle stories, and it's interesting to see how many you can catch. It also features the usual pleasant camaraderie between Rathbone and Bruce, plus Dennis Hoey as Inspector Lestrade.
　　As "The Spider Woman", Sondergaard creates a memorable opponent for Holmes. The slightly exaggerated role cannot have been much of a challenge for such a fine actress, but she puts her heart into it, and looks as if she is enjoying herself - as her character certainly is. By creating such a dynamic character, she also helps make the complicated story seem more plausible, and it creates a worthy challenge for Holmes.
　　The movie also contains the amusing bits of dialogue and detail that characterized so many of the movies in the series. The climactic sequence, in particular, is a very good combination of suspense and wit. It is a fitting way to cap off an enjoyable entry in the popular series.

While attending a conference in Quebec City, Sherlock Holmes and his good friend Dr. Watson are drawn into a murder investigation in the nearby village of La Mort Rouge. Holmes had received a letter from Lady Penrose asking for his assistance as she feared for her life. It was too late however as she had already been killed by the time he received it. Her throat was torn out and the local villagers are spreading rumors about monsters and evil spirits as being the cause. Holmes doesn't believe any of that and sets out to find the killer. He believes that Lady Penrose's past as an actress may have something to with her death. As others in the village are attacked, Holmes believes the killer is among them, impersonating a local villager as he goes about his business.

女賊艾米奉老賊康納維旨意，在船上從護送包格斯黑珍珠的人那裡偷走瞭珍珠，女賊為逃脫檢查，逐把哄騙一同船老先生，將裝有珍珠的手包帶下船，下穿2人分手後，女賊和前來迎接他的康納維，才發現珍珠又一次被偷走，小偷留下一個紙條，告訴他們是SH拿走瞭珍珠順便問他們好，當然那位船上糊塗的老先生是誰就不用猜瞭。
但當福爾摩斯先生向自負的博物館館長，用勒蓋特之謎的手法證明他們的防護系統並不保險時，康納維又把珍珠偷走瞭，怎麼得手的？去問福爾摩斯先生，老福簡直在眾人尤其是老雷面前大丟面子，康納維雖然被捕，可是他身上全不見珍珠，隻能以砸玻璃的罪名，逮捕人傢，這個罪名還是老福臨時想出來的。
幾天後兩位先生和一位女士被殺，都是折斷背脊而死，現場都是砸碎的瓷器，這點引起老福的注意，經過對碎瓷的研究，發現一些拿破侖雕像的殘片，然後他就去瞭哈丁公司，然後又去瞭買雕像的商店，現在知道這個片改編自哪個故事瞭吧，隻是罪犯是3個人，艾米、康納維、還有一個腦子有殘疾的殺人怪物霍克斯頓跛行著。比較好看，很短，一個小時零5分鐘，basil 比較急躁，說話更快瞭，很忙碌，連抽煙的空都快沒瞭，煙鬥點瞭兩次，第2次點煙的時候，還遭瞭槍擊。不過沒象黑片那樣打得玻璃滿天飛，不是很過癮，這點我很不滿意，浪費瞭BR那一身功夫。

Seven rich men retire to a Scottish castle and promptly begin to die in violent fashion. Each death is preceded by the delivery of orange pips to the next target. As all the likely victims are heaviliy insured, Sherlock Holmes is asked by the insurance companies to investigate.
　　Despite previous comments by users I feel are a little unfair, this film is one for fans of Basil Rathbone and the Sherlock Holmes series. Rathbone is THE Holmes and this is one of the best of the Universal releases of the period.
　　
　　Ok, the plot can be a little thin at times, all the bodies are identified using circumstancial evidence which wouldn't hold up in court, but be honest, when you watch the film for the first time, who do you think is responsible for the deaths of The Good Comrades? You certainly aren't prepared for the ending!
　　
　　Like The Scarlet Claw and The Hound Of The Baskervilles,the Black and White format compliments the story brilliantly in helping to set the mood, something which later versions of Sherlock Holmes films cannot sadly re-produce.
　　
　　When you watch this film, enjoy it and try not to analyse it too much or you will ruin it for yourself.
　　
　　All in all, a film you can sit down and enjoy again and again.

　　華生的朋友很喜歡收集各種不同的音樂盒，他在一個拍賣會上買到一個很普通的音樂盒，結果他的音樂盒卻被人偷走瞭，更令人奇怪的是，小偷隻偷走瞭不值錢的，為此他找到瞭福爾摩斯，福爾摩斯參觀他的收藏，並提醒他注意自己的收藏，結果沒有任何作用，當他們離開的時候，來瞭一位神秘的女子，第二天就發現瞭收藏傢的屍體，為此福爾摩斯展開瞭調查，原來這件案件牽涉到幾年以前的一個偽鈔案，聰明的福爾摩斯這次又該如何破解此案呢？

巴茲爾·拉思伯恩：

生於約翰內斯堡一個英國人傢庭，成長於英國。他是銀幕上最出色的反派角色之一，並以出演大偵探福爾摩斯而聞名遐邇。1911年開始登臺演戲。1921年進入電影界，在幾部無聲片裡主要飾演一些浪漫角色。進入有聲片時代，他以獨特的演技塑造出許多令人信服的反派角色。40年代在《福爾摩斯歷險記》等14部影片中扮演沉著、機智的偵探福爾摩斯，給人留下瞭深刻的印象。1967年7月死於心臟病。

奈傑爾·佈魯斯：

奈傑爾·佈魯斯（Nigel Bruce）生於墨西哥恩塞納達。一戰時在英軍服役，1918年因傷退役，後參加舞臺表演，曾在倫敦、百老匯演出。1929年在英國首次登上銀幕，演出瞭《法網與情網》。他是三、四十年代最活躍的性格演員之一。他的父親是英國的爵士，因此他熟悉上流社會一套生活方式，從而擅長扮演那些充滿自信，可事情卻幹不好的人物。如他在福爾摩斯偵探連集片中扮演華生醫生。
