Microsoft的界面設計師受上述的設計概念啟發後,進一步確立其產品設計要求快速、順暢、全面數碼化。傳統的軟件界面設計會有很多如突出的按鈕、模擬木質或金屬素材的版面,Microsoft新一代設計則認為軟件是數碼世界的物件,由螢幕上的像素、字體和資訊動態的流動所組成的。

It might sound audacious to think that Microsoft, the arbiter of uncool, was at the forefront of design a few years ago. But it was.

The language that Windows Phone 8 presents is a very digital language, it says ‘this is digital information presented on a smartphone,’ and as such is not trying to bring in other cultural ideas. … It is a nice, clean, pure color, interface. The tiling system is intuitive. It is not over-designed to bring in other narratives from other objects.
Yves Behar:
I like where Microsoft is going; they’re moving away from skeuomorphism and thinking more about touch.
當然,Microsoft離將新設計全面帶到產品的每個角落還是有很多工作要做,例如Windows上不同的小圖示,很多地方仍在使用舊有的設計。
