今年2012 World Car of the Year的票選結果出爐，VW Up!得到了此項頭銜；而相對得到World Performance Car of the Year(性能車)頭銜的是Porsche 911，World Car Design of the Year(設計)頭銜的是Range Rover Evoque。在World Green Car of the Year(綠能)的評選部份，是由Mercedes-Benz S 250 CDI BlueEfficency中選。

VW Up!在去年的法蘭克福車展上首度亮相，之後就成為歐洲市場上，最受注目、且具影響力的小車之一；它在VAG集團內還有兩款孿生兄弟，就是：Skoda Citigo、以及Seat Mii。

在VW品牌來說，最近的四屆World Car of the Year評選，就有三次是被VW的車款拿下頭銜；除了去年的得主是Nissan Leaf，之前2009是Golf得獎、而2010則是Polo。
