21世紀末，時間取代金錢成為貨幣單位，每個人到了25歲後，就不再變老，但也只能再活一年，若不及補充生理時數，就會立即死亡。威爾(賈斯汀 飾)生活在得拼命賺取時間以延續分秒生命的時區，而他的生命即將消逝...一日，他巧遇並解救了擁有超過100年以上生命時間資產的亨利，原已厭世的亨利決定把這資產轉給威爾並離世。也因此讓威爾有機會見識到另一不愁時間流逝的上流時區並結識了舉足輕重的魏斯家族與其獨生女席薇亞(亞曼達塞芙瑞 飾)。但這事件引起時間管理人(席尼墨菲 飾)的注意並展開一連串的追逐。就在威爾即將因被控殺人而逮捕時，他綁架了席薇亞並展開逃亡。同時，他還不斷的將時間分給即將面臨死亡的人導致時間系統失控並引來更多追獵者。一路艱險中，他和席薇亞由對立變成生命共同體，面對未知，他們決定改變時間，改變世界!
