Regina Spektor [born February 18th 1980 in Moscow, Russian SFSR] is a Soviet-born American singer-songwriter and pianist. In New York, Spektor studied classical piano with Sonia Vargas, a professor at the Manhattan School of Music, until she was 17, Spektor's father had met Vargas through her husband, violinist Samuel Marder. Although the family had been unable to bring their piano from Russia, Spektor found a piano on which to play in the basement of her synagogue, and also practiced on tabletops and other hard surfaces. Spektor was originally interested only in classical music, but later became interested in hip hop, rock and punk as well. Spektor's songs are not usually autobiographical, but rather are based on scenarios and characters drawn from her imagination. Her songs show influences from folk, punk, rock, Jewish, Russian, hip hop, jazz and classical music. Spektor has said that she works hard to ensure that each of her songs has its own musical style, rather than trying to develop a distinctive style for her music as a whole. Since self-releasing her own albums in 2001, 2002 and 2003 Spektor has risen sharply in popularity, with 'Far' being only her third album to be released outside the United States. Often compared to musicians as diverse as Bjork and Chopin, Spektor is one of the biggest successes to emerge from the New York anti-folk scene.'Far' is the fifth studio album by American alternative singer-songwriter Regina Spektor, released in Europe on June 22th 2009 and North America on June 23th 2009. Far entered the official UK Albums Chart at No.30. It also sold 50,000 copies in its first week, entering the US Billboard 200 at No.3. In the Canadian Albums Chart, 'Far' debuted at No.16. The album's first single, 'Laughing With', was released as a digital download on May 18th 2009 in the United States and parts of Europe, along with the b-side 'Blue Lips'.

2009年，Regina的最新創作大碟"Far"，上次也合作過的製作人David Kahne (Paul McCartney、The Strokes)這次依然參與，另外招攬各屬於不同領域的製作人Jeff Lynne (ELO、The Traveling Wilburys)、Mike Elizondo (Dr. Dre、Eminem)、Jacknife Lee (Weezer、R.E.M.)加入，讓"Far"更有可聽性。一向是被比喻為Tori Amos與Fiona Apple綜合體的Regina Spektor，其實深入仔細聽其音樂，Regina可是有其自己特別的味道，她有信手拈來敲打鋼琴身與椅子的freestlye演奏方式，也在歌曲中以特殊唱法，唱出些許無意義的字或外語，歌詞也常形容些抽象的想法或引用文學著作，Regina本身更是受到古典、民謠、搖滾、爵士、猶太當地音樂等多種曲風的影響，她的音樂相當特別也別有異趣。從"Begin To Hope"開始Regina的音樂便已稍微漸趨流行、也更能被輕易接受。以兩支先行曝光的單曲來初探，先是稍稍讓人想起Rachael Yamagata的清淡小品「Laughing With」，Regina輕唱吟遊又導入輕飄高音；清冷灰暗的「Blue Lips」、以幽幽漸進的琴聲搭配吉他與弦樂點綴，雖算不上會立即上癮，但肯定是張細水長流的佳作。
